Understanding Your Skin Type

Are you oily, dry, combination, normal, or maybe throw in sensitive?

How do you know which one you are?

As a Los Angeles Makeup Artist, it’s my job to understand how to prep skin before makeup. These are key points in understanding your skin type.

Oily - when you wake up your face is an oil slick, or when you wash your face and your skin noticeably is oily. A lightweight gel or gel cream moisturizer is best.

Dry - tight and even flaky, ashy, or might even crack. A thick moisturizer is best.

Combination of both - a lot of people tend to have combination skin. Oily in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin), dry or normal on the rest of the face. A gel-cream moisturizer is perfect. Add more product to areas that are more dry.

Normal - an equal balance, where you’re not oily but not dry, your skin is hydrated. You’re drinking your water and taking care of your skin 😏. A gel-cream or a little bit of thick moisturizing cream will work for you.

Sensitive - 🥹 this can be difficult because you have to find what works best for your skin. You can be any of the above and be sensitive. If your skin becomes red, inflamed, or irritated, even having breakouts, I would suggest no heavy fragrances and test everything out on your arm first, then a small area on your cheek. We need to see how your skin will react before slathering your face with a moisturizer. It’s best to see a Dermatologist or Esthetician. 🥰

Well babe that’s it for now. Check back next week for my next post. As always, I’m happy to have you here. 💕💕 Want to learn more about my Hands-On Makeup Workshop where we find your skin type too? Click on my image below. 💁🏽‍♀️

If you’re wondering what my skin type is…. drumroll…

I’m combination-dry. Normal everywhere but dry around my mouth. I love to look like a glazed donut.
