Mastering Your Makeup Look: Finding the Perfect Foundation

Foundation / Skin Tint. Now babe look, I know that there’s been a huge issue with choosing which product is right for your skin. We’ll jump into your shade match at the end. You walk into Sephora and there’s so many options. Where do you start? How do you know what to look for?

Remember last week’s post about skin? If you haven’t seen that post, click here and then come back to this post. 🥰

Now no matter if it’s a foundation or a skin tint, what do the labels say? For example, I’m more on the dry side so I tend to go for foundations that are dewy or luminous in finish.

If I was more on the oily side, I’d go for a foundation with a matte finish.

What if you want the best of both worlds? I love a soft matte foundation that has a velvet finish.. that isn’t going to be drying like a matte foundation would be, but it also wouldn’t be luminous with dewy in finish.

If your skin is normal and or you know how to prep your skin for either finish.. 😅 Honey you can have whatever you’d liiiiike 💁🏽‍♀️.

Now here’s where things will get a tad confusing. Remember how I said I’m more on the dry side so I usually use foundations that have a dewy finish? Well because of my skin prep, the moisture is right where I need it, and I can handle a soft matte foundation. I still will never choose a fully matte foundation however. 🙂‍↔️

By the time I finish my entire face, with all my powders, I end up with a velvet finish, that has a soft matte look anyway. 😅 That’s for night time only. During the day I go for an every day dewy base. 😃

Every day makeup with a dewy base for daytime, soft glam and matte during the night. But why?

During the day I don’t want to look overly done. Powders make you look done DONE! So the places I put my powders are very strategic, vs. me adding powders to my entire face for a night time look.

Setting your makeup with powder no matter the finish, makes your makeup last longer and will also give you a more soft glam look vs. an every day makeup look.

Whew, that was a mouthful. 😩

The problem that I’ve seen throughout the years with choosing your foundations / skin tints is that they are not your shade…

Let’s get into that conversation for our next post. 😉
